Tips on Making a Better Cocktail Behind the Bar

Being a bartender is a lot of fun, but it also comes with a lot of responsibility. In order to be a good bartender, you will need to be able to make a variety of mixed drinks well on a consistent basis. For the most part, you will learn a lot of mixing techniques when you attend a Bartending School in the Las Vegas area, but you need to make sure that you continue your education even after that. Being able to make a great cocktail is an art form and if you can perfect it you will be able to write your own ticket. Here are a few tips to use when trying to make a better cocktail behind the bar.

Get Better Liquors

One of the best ways to increase the caliber of your mixed cocktails is by upgrading the liquor that you have in your bar. You want to make sure that you only use the best liquors because they will help to create the best tasting cocktails. By only using bottom shelf alcohol, you will compromise the enjoyment that your customers have when drinking your cocktail.

Fresh Ingredients are Key

Another very important thing to consider when trying to make the best possible cocktail is that fresh ingredients work much better. You want to make sure that the juices that you use are as fresh as possible so that the flavors do not get lost in the mix. Be sure to check all of your expiration dates on your juices on a regular basis to make sure that you do not serve expired drinks to your customers. You need to make sure that the fruit and vegetables that you use as garnishment stay fresh and looking their best as well.

The Proper Measurements

Yet another very important thing to consider when trying to make the best cocktails is that you need to measure out all of your ingredients. Many bartenders think that they know the proper measurements and do not have to use a measuring glass, but this is usually not the case. The only way to make sure that the drink you are making is done correctly is by measuring it out.

If you follow all of these guidelines, you will be making top notch cocktails in no time at all. Neglecting to follow them will cost you customers and your reputation.
